Live Oak Plantation’s homebred colt Soup and Sandwich drew post 19 of 20 for Saturday’s $3 million Kentucky Derby (G1) at Churchill Downs.
The gray/roan son of Into Mischief has three starts to date: an easy maiden and allowance winner in his first two outings, then showed his class with a game second in the Florida Derby (G1). He is the first foal out of Souper Scoop.
“He has speed and has the entire stretch to get into position. I’d rather be outside than inside,” said David Carroll, assistant to trainer Mark Casse after the post position draw.
Soup and Sandwich will be ridden for the first time by Tyler Gafflione.
The Derby is race 12 on Saturday’s stakes-laden card. Races will be televised live from noon through 7:30 p.m. ET, with the Derby at 6:57.
