Live Oak Plantation’s Golden Hawk remained undefeated in two starts with a 5 1/4-length score in Sunday’s $150,000 Grey S. (G3) at Woodbine.
Facing just four foes in the 1 1/16-mile contest, Patrick Husbands sent the 2-year-old son of Tapit right to the front from the gate and never looked back. After six furlongs in 1:12.85, Night Watchman mounted a brief challenge, but Golden Hawk shook him off easily to seal the win.
The final time was 1:43.38 on the synthetic surface.
“With a small field, you don’t want to get trapped on the first turn,” said Husbands. “So I just let him run away from there, and he just pricked his ears. I had everything my way.”
Bred in Kentucky by his owner, Golden Hawk is out of the Gone West mare, Gone Purrfect, who is a full sister to 2004 Champion Sprinter and leading sire Speightstown.
